Our heroes: Local heroes

 This week in hururmanu one, we have been working on our local heroes. Mr. Mitchell told us to choose the earthquake that happen in 2011 or the terror attack that happen  in 2019, i choose the earthquake that happen in 2011. What we had to do was do a DLO (not boring) and answer some questions, here are the questions and answers:     

1. What did they do? What qualities did they show?;

he saved two people and he showed people as a role model.

2. Where were they? How did they get involved?

2011, and he just got involved by just saving those two strangers.

3. Why did they get involved?

He just wanted to save those two people.

4. Did they earn any bravery awards?

yes but no. his award was becoming a celebrity.

6.How has their life been affected?

He became very famous after that day.

Reflection for the culture kete

What went well for me/my group with my research and presentation:

  The pictures that we drew. I drew beach day outfit in Brazil and my teammate did a picture of  Brazilian carnival outfit.

What didn't go so well and why?:

 I forgot my brigadeiros at home because i was busy and maybe i didn't do enough effort.

If i was to do this again what would i do differently:

  Put more effort into into my work.

 

Music through the decades

This week in counting the beat we have been working on "music through the decades". First Mr. Mitchell showed us a presentation about what we do, first in the slide we had to do a few slides and all on the top had a number on it of the year. we had to do to 1900's to 2010's, on each slide we had to write: 

• Who were some famous musicians of the time,

• What musical genre was popular/new,

• A video or audio recording of a song from this decade,

• Any songs that were re-released during this decade.

• An iconic or fashion image from that decade.

Mr.Mitchell said we can get in to groups no more then four, me Venice and Jordan went into a group. We also watched a video:

How we select our Government in a General Election

 There are two votes, one for Party and one for a leader.

How often are our General Elections?

Three years.

What are the steps Parliament follows to pass a new law?

There are several stages that a bill passes before becoming an Act of Parliament. These stages ensure that a bill is subject to public debate and scrutiny. Some of these stages also provide an opportunity for a bill to be changed: Introduction, First reading, Select committee, Second reading, Committee of the whole House, Third reading and Royal assent.

How do the steps we used to create our Class Treaty compare with the steps in passing a new law?

In our class treaty we:

• We went into groups and spread the workload. (The same as Parliament )

• Other people checked our work and made changes. (This is like a second reading of a Bill.)

• We then put our treaty into a formal format. (Parliamentary Services does do this)

• We checked it out as a whole class. (This is like the same as the final reading in Parliament)

• We all signed the Treaty. (This is the same as Royal Assent (signed by the Governor-General)

Treaty of waitangi

This week in hurumanu one we have been working on the subject: Treaty of Waitangi.  Mr.micthell got us some questions and we had to answer each one of it and Here are the questions we got and our answers!

• Who is the Treaty of Waitangi between?

British crown and Maori

• Where and when was the Treaty signed?

was signed on February 6, 1840, at Waitangi in the Bay of Islands.

• How many copies are there of the treaty?

In total there are nine signed copies of the treaty of Waitangi, including the sheet signed on 6 February 1840 at Waitangi.

• Who signed the treaty? How many Chiefs?

Gathering signatures from around the country. About 40 chiefs signed the Treaty of Waitangi on 6 February 1840 and by the end of the year almost 500 chiefs signed it.

• Who was James Busby and what did he have to do with Waitangi?

Edinburgh-born James Busby was British Resident, a consular representative, in New Zealand from 1833. Based at Waitangi in the Bay of Islands, he was given little material support to achieve British policy aims, but in early 1840 he helped William Hobson draft the Treaty of Waitangi.

• Who was and what did Hone Heke Pokai do?

Heke Pōkai and later often referred to as Hōne Heke, was a highly influential Māori rangatira (chief) of the Ngāpuhi iwi (tribe) and a war leader in northern New Zealand; he was affiliated with the Ngati Rahiri, Ngai Tawake, Ngati Tautahi, Te Matarahurahu and Te Uri-o-Hau hapu

• Who was and what did Captain William Hobson do? 

He negotiated the Treaty of Waitangi with the Maori chiefs, which granted England sovereignty over New Zealand. William Hobson was born at Waterford, Ireland, on Sept. 26, 1792. He entered the Royal Navy at the age of 10, became a midshipman in 1806, and rose to captain in 1834.

• Who was and what did Reverend Henry Williams do?

was the leader of the Church Missionary Society (CMS) mission in New Zealand in the first half of the 19th century. Williams entered the Royal Navy at the age of fourteen and served in the Napoleonic Wars. He went to New Zealand in 1823 as a missionary.

• Who was and what did Tamati Waaka Nênê do?

was a Māori rangatira (chief) of the Ngāpuhi iwi (tribe) who fought as an ally of the British in the Flagstaff War of 1845–46.

• What was the problem with translation of the treaty?

The translation people weren’t experts so it might of been wrong

• What were the effects on Māori rights?

They thought they had control over their land but they were wrong.

• How do we remember Waitangi Day?

Every year on 6 February, New Zealand marks the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi in 1840. In that year, representatives of the British Crown and over 500 Māori chiefs signed what is often considered to be New Zealand's founding document.

Counting the beat: Famous musicians

Angelica hale is a American singer, she is an 11 year old Celebrity, she competed in the 12th season of America's got talent, and became the runner-up to winner Darci Lynne. her most famous song is "No time to waste" she became a famous singer by just going to America's got talent. 

In 2012, when Angelica Hale was just 4 years old, she became very ill with double pneumonia due to an aggressive Strep Pneumococcal bacterial infection. She desperately needed life-saving medical intervention and was put on ECMO life-support at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Egleston.

My own weird instrument-Counting the beat

Hello good readers!

This is my weird instrument i made- A Violin with a keyboard

Inspiration:

I saw a video with a girl playing the violin and her mum 

playing the keyboard and it gave me an idea

to put the two instrument together.

What instrument family does it belong to?
Strings and percussion.

What is it made from?
Violin=Wood. Keyboard=water cut plastic.

How do you play it?
You would put the Violin on your chest like normal Violin, and these a hole for the
Bow so you can take it out to use the Violin. You would put your bow back in the
hole or hold it, then u can play the keyboard and quickly get the bow to play the
Violin.

What type of sound does it play?
it can do any type of sound if you focus on the way you play it.

What type of music will it be used for
The same as the sound.
