Colouring wananga

Kia ora everyone

Today in Wananga we started colouring this thing we had to do. First we had to pick a colouring and then make a blog post and explain what we did!

So first we went into the site which they call "Art colouring book", and we could of either made it the same as the actual picture and then screen shot it, or we could of coloured it the same as the real picture and screen shot it! here is my favourite one that I did:

We were supposed to do one of the NASA colouring so I did one of them as well, and this one was my first one, which was kinda easy but it doesn't mean i'm not proud of myself:

As you can see the NASA one is very simple, but it looks pretty cool, anyway, that is the colouring I did! I am still doing one more but I'll keep it out of blog post so you guys get curious :)

I hope you enjoyed reading my blog post!

QUESTION OF THE DAY: Do you colour? if so, explain what drawings do you like to colour the most.

Market Day

Kia Ora everyone.

Yesterday ( 12/01/2021 ) at school we had the business and enterprise kete, it was actually quite interesting.
Me and my team of course started the day by finishing our poster and putting our table outside like everyone else. Then we starting fixing up our product onto our table so we can finally sell it.

We got A LOT of costumers, everyone loved our product! I think we did really good, I am not sure how much we made, but what I do know we made more than $40 dollars, maybe we even made it to $100 !
You are probably wondering who was in it, well it was Me, Jordan, Venice, & Vielle.

I was the CEO, Jordan was Marketing manager, Venice was Sales/Finance Manager, & Vielle was Production manager.
When we started to sell our product and other people selling their product, my team decided that one of us or two of us stays, and one or two of us goes and look at other peoples products, and some of us even had money ( unlike me :I ). My friends went to buy stuff so I usually had to stay behind but it was either fun anyway, one of my friends from the other team, went to buy candy but they kindly gave me one.

When I was the CEO in it, it was actually quite stressful, it was hard to get people to listen to me or listen to my opinion once, but we ended up doing it quite well in the actually market day. Our poster was looking weird by the time we finished it ... A lot of people thought that our little shop was called "Now Open" which was strange but I don't blame nobody, our actual name was smaller than our "Now Open" sign.
I don't have a picture of the poster but I can show you what our ONLINE poster looks like:

I think our business was really successful, a lot of people went to our table outside and they said that they really liked our product ! I also think our business was really successful because we were being respectful to the costumers and not ignoring them in a way and just being patient. I think me and my team showed a lot of the CARR values yesterday. not only did we respect our costumers but me and my team respected each other and ourselves.

Making Ginger Beer

 Aim:

I want to find out how to brew ( make ) ginger beer.

Research: YouTube; 1. What is alcohol or how to brew alcohol? 2. How to brew Ginger Beer?

3. Science of Fermentation?

(Also just letting you guys know, YouTube is not letting me put the video in probably so I will have to put links instead. )

Research:

Link thing

 Ginger ( Quarantine Activity )

 Fermentation

Method:

Equipment:

  • Ginger ( source of sugar )
  • Warm water
  • Yeast
  • cup
  • spoon
Instructions:

  1. Wash your hands
  2. Get the equipment
  3. put one table spoon of ginger in the cup
  4. add one teaspoon of yeast
  5. Mix it all together
  6. leave it to ferment for one week
  7. after one week, taste it

Results:

As you can see, I made it, we had to taste a little then put it on the window and then taste it after one week and taste it entirely, everyone said their ones tastes disgusting but I think mine tastes really good!

What is fermentation--->
Fermentation is a chemical change that happens in vegetable and animal substances. For thousands of years people have used fermentation to make bread, wine, beer, cheese, and other foods. The enzymes break down food into chemicals. When bakers add yeast to bread dough, the yeast breaks down the sugars in the dough.
( OTHER WAY TO SAY IT: Fermentation is a process that involves the breakdown of carbs by bacteria and yeast. It results in a distinctive tart flavor and is used to make foods like yogurt, cheese, and sauerkraut.

REAL RESULTS AFTER A WEEK:

I didn't taste it because mine smelt so bad, like barf but way stronger, and had these white stuff inside, but from the smell I almost threw up, Mr tasted mine and he almost threw up. Plus it looked horrible. It was honestly disgusting.
 :( yuck...

Art catchup

 Hello readers 😀 !

So this week me and my art class have been working on poster design analysis, we have been searching up good posters and terrible posters by there text, colour, etc...   Miss said we could choose if we wanted to buddy up with someone or do it by your self and I ended up with Jordan.

Me and Jordan searched up bad posters first, we didn't find what miss was looking for, so sadly we didn't win the challenge to the person who finds the worst poster had gotten a juicie, here is our slide:

It is not the best and I do know that me and Jordan could had found more bad looking posters but either way I think we still did pretty good on the good posters!

Next week i think we will be making our own posters but I am not sure still, i think we had to do this so we could see what was bad on a poster and what was good on a poster. We also had to write beside the poster we choose on the slide and write about what was wrong about it or what was good about it.

That is all and stay tuned to what we will be doing next in art! 😀

Red cabbage undicator

Aim: I want to find out how red cabbage can tell if a liquid is an acid or a base.

Research: 1x YouTube video about Red Cabbage Indicators.

Method:

Equipment:
  • Acid was hydrochloride Acid
  • Base was Sodium hydroxide
  • Water
  • Cup/beaker
  • Test tube
  • Dropper
  • Red cabbage

Instructions:
  1. Wash your hands
  2. Grab your equipment
  3. Put water into the beaker
  4. Cut the cabbage in little pieces and put it in the beaker with the water in it & mix the water with cabbage until its dark
  5. Grab the water colour of the cabbage beaker with the dropper and put some in each Test tube and you should count how many drops you put
  6. Get the Sodium Acid and Base acid
  7. Put one of the acids or both in the test tubes and you should count how many drops you put in
  8. And make colours with the acids and cabbage water!
  9. Quest: Try to put more than 1 colour in a test tube without them mixing
  10. Now make your adventure of colours 😃

Results:     The colours went to dark to slowly light, the most surprising colour was yellow and when you could put another layer on a colour.

Discussion:        Q1: What is an Acid and a Base-------------------

HARDER EXPLANATION: An acid–base reaction is a chemical reaction that occurs between an acid and a base. It can be used to determine pH.

EASIER EXPLANATION: An acid is a substance that can donate a hydrogen ion (H+) to another substance. ... A strong acid will be able to let go of many or all of their hydrogen ions while a weak acid will hold onto some of their ions. Because acids donate hydrogen ions, all acids must have hydrogen in them.

Q2 :   What do chemical indicators do----------
Chemical indicators are used to monitor whether the parameters to achieve sterilization have been met for a specific sterilization process.

Q3 : An ion is a special type of atom or molecule that has an electric charge. A hydrogen ion, then, is one that has a tiny electrical charge. Every substance in the universe is made up of hundreds and thousands of tiny atoms, molecules and ions. When a large number of those are hydrogen ions, the substance is acidic

Making Sherbet

 Aim:

I want to find out how to make sherbet.

Research: How to make sherbet video & The science behind sherbet:

                                                     How to make Sherbet video---------------

The science behind sherbet-----------

Method:
Equipment
  • Popsicle stick
  • Citric Acid
  • Raro
  • Baking soda
  • Paper
Instructions
  1. Get your Equipment
  2. Wash your hands
  3. put the paper on your table
  4. get a pile of the three powders
  5. Using your Popsicle stick mix some of each powder
  6. Taste the sherbet
  7. if there is too much baking soda, add more citric acid
  8. if there is to much citric acid, add more baking soda
  9. to improve the flavour add more Raro
Results:

I wasn't here but my friends said that it tasted okay, she sent me a photo from the day though!  :) 😃

Discussion:

Why did the sherbet not foam on the paper but it did in your mouth?

What was the chemical reaction in the sherbet?
The fizzing sensation experienced when eating sherbet is a result of the chemical reaction between the citric acid and sodium bicarbonate. This reaction also produces small bubbles of carbon dioxide but only when the dry ingredients are wet by saliva in the mouth.

What type of chemical reaction is this?
Naturalisation

                                                                   Discussion:
                                                       How do you taste food?:
taste buds pick up clues about how a food tastes and sends messages about it to your brain along special wires called nerves. To taste something properly, you need to chew food into small pieces and to have a lot of drool, or saliva. This help the flavour molecules (also known as “tastants”) reach your taste buds.
                                                       What are different tastes?:
               Sweet, sour,fruity,slimy,Chewy,Biter,Salty,savoury,meaty,cool,hot,

Where are the different taste buds on your tounge?                         Each person has between 5,000 and 10,000 taste buds, most of which are located in papillae — the small rounded bumps on the upper surface of the tongue. Taste buds are also scattered across the roof of the mouth and the back of the throat.

Drama-performing arts.

 Kia ora everybody!

So this term we have been doing drama as you know it and today I will be explaining:

  • What is performing arts? (My definition). Make a list of these examples. Fine at least 5 different types, support these with links to videos.
  1. Performing arts for me is a way I can express my feelings.
  2. I can express my feelings by dancing.
  3. I can express my feelings by acting.
  4. I can be anyone in a play.
  5. I can be my best self.
  6. I can have an amazing time.

Drama

Hello everybody! *warning don't scroll if you are scared of killer clown pictures*

Me and my hurumanu have been going to drama this term and it has been super awesome! Our teacher is Mr Wilkes, He is really nice and really good at acting, and sometimes he lets us play hide n seek in drama in the dark. We are learning about type of clowns in drama too.

  1. The clown who wears the flower, big shoes, white paint in his/her face and a red nose.
  2. The clown who is in horror movies, like killer clowns.
  3. The clown which is just a silly person who makes people laugh but just wears a normal outfit.
Mr Wilkes told us that a lot of people lost there jobs of being clowns that paint their face with funny and colour outfits with a red nose because a lot of people these days are afraid of clowns because of the type of horror movies these days. Usually people are just in plays and ACT like a clown, like funny, silly and even gibberish like minions:

We did some activities like icebreakers and some acting games which were pretty fun! sadly I didn't do a two games since I was feeling well, but besides that, drama was awesome! :)

THANK YOU FOR READING! and here is some clowns to look at <3

Funny clown without the makeup and everything---------------

Here is a link to a funny clown video:

I am going to be making my own clown:

My clowns name is going to be Mr.Fun
The type they are? well my clown is just funny but no clown outfits.
My clown will walk like the penguins or minions
He talks gibberish

Eating hot chilli 🌶

Aim: I want to find out how to get rid of burning chilli off my tongue.

Research: Find a funny YouTube  of eating hot chilli. Find a video about science of chilli.

Funny hot chilli

Science hot chilli

Method

Equipment

  • Coca-cola
  • water
  • milk
  • timer
  • Popsicle stick.
  • Carolina Reaper.
  • Plastic shot cups.

Instructions

  1. Get your equipment.
  2. Scoop some chilli onto your stick.
  3. Start the timer and eat the chilli.
  4. Stop the timer after 4mins.
  5. Rate how hot your mouth is.
  6. Do experiment again but drink water after 2mins.
  7. Do the experiment again but drink coca-cola after 2mins.
  8. Drink milk🥛
Results 🥵 :

The first chill I did was without water and I am scoring it a 10 for burning.
*No video*

The second time, I had water and after 4mins I scored it a 6.5 for burning.

The third time, I had Coca-cola and I scored it a 9 for burning.

The fourth time, I had milk and I scored it a 2 almost a 1 for burning. ( hated milk ) :)

                                       Review:
The coke for me made it worse and I feel like throwing up from that, all of them.

Discussion:
Why does chilli burn your mouth?:

Capsaicin makes your mouth feel as if it is on fire because the capsaicin molecule happens to fit the receptors perfectly. When this happens, it triggers these receptors, which send a signal to your brain, fooling it into thinking that your mouth is literally burning.

Why did the milk reduce the burn?:
Milk is a solution when eating spicy foods. That's because milk helps your mouth handle capsaicin, an oily chemical compound in chilli peppers. ... Since capsaicin is fat-soluble, rinsing with milk fat helps ease the burn. Casein protein found in milk can also bind to the capsaicin and wash it away.

Why hello dear readers!

As you know I have been doing reading plus, today I was a bit rusty on it, and what I mean by that I was a bit distracted and I kept getting on support mode. Anyway, here is my reading plus progress:

question of the day: if u did read any books/stories today which one was it ( what was it called? )

Coding. FUN.

 Why hello there!

Me and my Hurumanu two class have been doing something called "coding" for weeks, and it has been really fun. We have been using this app called "Code.org" and It is like REALLY helping me- not me but my whole  class, it is an amazing app that is making us learn about coding and how to code.

Code.org has this program which has lessons, and in those lessons are levels, so at the moment I'm on lesson nine on level one.

For me it is actually a bit quite hard for me to understand but I'm getting there! I will show everybody my game but at the moment I'm still struggling to finish it so I hope everybody understands.

LINK!

Yes I know that I could put more effort into it and I will ! I'm still not finished it since I had to redo it because it was broken.  ANYWAY yea that's pretty much it! code.org has characters called "Spirts" and that's what u saw on my game, BYE NOW :D

Question of the day: What is your favourite colour :) ?
